Affidavit dated 8 March 1948 by Reich Chancelor Dr. Joseph Wirth (retired). The anxiety of all German governments between 1918 and 1933 concerning the existence of the Reich which was threatened from without and within, Poland's threat to the East of Germany. The uneven balance of the Armed Forces of Germany in relation to those of the neighboring states. The desire of the German Army Command to strengthen their own defense forces and its approval by the German Reich Governments. The liberation from the crippling conditions of the Versailles treaty as political goal of all the Reich governments and all German parties. The knowledge of the French government of alleged offenses against the Versailles treaty. The thoughts of the Army Command and Reich government which are concerned only with the defense of Germany Reich territory. The idiocy of any thought of an aggressive war. No initiative on the part of German industry in military political problems. (1)
