Notes:

Affidavit by Prof. Anton Hardoerfer dated 27 November 1947. The witness was a member of the "Society of Friends of Modern Chamber Music," which ceased in 1933 because of strong attacks by the Nazis. Undaunted, Houdremont continued to hold his musical evenings at home in spite of Nazi disapproval. When total war was proclaimed, Houdrement vigorously exerted himself to protect the artists. Houdremont, besides his music, fostered other intellectual interests and participated in many cultural activities, such as the Goethe Society in Essen. (58-59)
